Getting started

What the ping pong game is, whether it is free, and how to start a match in your browser.

What is this ping pong game?

It is a free single-player ping pong (table tennis) game you play in a web browser. You control a paddle from a top-down view and rally against an AI opponent. Points are scored to 11, win by two, and there are three difficulty levels — Casual, Pro, and Champion.

Is the ping pong game free to play online?

Yes. pingponggame.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a table is ready.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app-store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

Where does ping pong come from?

Table tennis began in England in the 1880s as an after-dinner parlour game, played across a line of books with cigar-box lids for bats. “Ping-Pong” was a trademarked brand name for early equipment. The International Table Tennis Federation formed in 1926, and the sport joined the Olympic programme in 1988.

Rules and scoring

Serving, returning, scoring to 11, deuce, the side walls, and how the difficulty levels change play.

How do you play ping pong here?

Move your paddle with the mouse or a finger to meet the ball and send it back over the net. Each point starts with a serve — it launches automatically or when you press Space or tap. You win a point when the opponent cannot return the ball past their edge of the table. First to 11 points wins the match, and you must be ahead by two.

How does scoring work?

Every rally is worth one point, won by whoever does not miss. The match goes to 11 points but must be won by a margin of two: at 10–10 it reaches deuce and continues, with the serve changing every point, until one player leads by two. The serve otherwise alternates every two points.

Why does the ball bounce off the sides?

The left and right edges of the table are solid walls, the way an arcade ping pong cabinet plays. The ball ricochets off them and stays in play, so aggressive cross-table angles are a deliberate tactic rather than a way to lose the point.

How do the difficulty levels differ?

Casual gives you a slow opponent that reacts late and misjudges wide balls, with gentle rally speed. Pro covers the table quickly, reacts within about a tenth of a second, and aims away from you, with the ball speeding up faster. Champion is fast, accurate, and powerful, with a hard rally acceleration and long deuces. Stats are tracked separately for each.

What are the controls?

Mouse or touch moves the paddle — move fast on contact for pace and spin, slow for a soft return. On the keyboard, Left/Right or A/D slide the paddle, Space serves, P or Esc pauses, M mutes, and N starts a new match.

What happens at 10–10?

The match goes to deuce. Play continues past 11 and the serve changes on every point instead of every two, until one player leads by two points. A deuce can run well past 11–11 on Champion.

Can the ball go out of bounds?

Not off the sides — those are walls. The only way a rally ends is a ball crossing a player’s edge of the table without being returned. There is no net fault: a ball that catches the net still plays on.

Winning and strategy

How the AI opponent behaves, how to beat it, and what separates the three difficulty levels.

How do I add spin?

Spin comes from your paddle’s sideways motion at the moment it touches the ball. Brush across the ball as you hit and it picks up curve that bends its flight and changes the angle it comes off the side wall. A small brush is enough — a big swipe adds spin but ruins your aim.

What is the best way to beat the AI?

Recover to the middle after every shot, then use the width of the table to hit into the space the opponent has just vacated. Change the pace — mix hard drives with soft, short returns — and use spin and the side walls to create angles it cannot reach in time. On Champion, one clean tactical idea per point beats trying to out-hit it.

Does the paddle speed really change the shot?

Yes. The ball inherits some of your paddle’s velocity, so swiping through the ball sends it faster and wider, while a slow, soft contact takes pace off and drops the ball shorter. Learning to vary that on purpose is the core skill.

Why does the ball get faster during a long rally?

Every successful return raises the minimum ball speed for the rest of that point. It stops points from stalling into an endless loop and rewards the player who commits to ending the rally.

Devices, saving, and controls

Mobile play, supported browsers, keyboard controls, saved progress, and why a streak might reset.

Does the game save my progress?

Your matches played and won, points for and against, longest rally, fastest win, and win streak are saved locally in your browser for each difficulty. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A match in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play ping pong on mobile?

Yes. The layout is built for touch and portrait screens: the table and your paddle sit above the fold, you drag anywhere on the table to move, and a tap serves. Starting a new match is instant with no page reload.

Can I play offline?

The game needs a connection to load the page the first time. After that, some browsers may keep the tab playable without a network, but there is no dedicated offline app or installer.

How do I reset my stats?

Open Stats from the game HUD and use Reset progress, then confirm with the second tap. That clears matches, points, longest rally, fastest win, and streaks for all three difficulties on this browser. It cannot be undone.

Why did my win streak reset?

The current streak counts consecutive match wins on one difficulty. Losing a match, or abandoning one by starting a new match before it finishes, resets that difficulty’s current streak to zero. Your longest streak is kept separately as a best.

Which browsers are supported?

Any current browser with JavaScript and the Canvas API: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop, plus their mobile versions. If the table does not respond, update the browser, allow scripts for this site, and reload.
